Kandinsky Monarchs
Having milkweeds in my own yard, along with doing some citizen science over the past few years, learning about Monarch butterflies and their challenge in surviving as a species definitely keeps me more attentive to their lives. This painting design is based on Kandinsky's "Gorge Composition" mainly, along with "Improvisation 26." It is the life cycle of the the Monarch from egg to caterpillar to adult butterfly amidst milkweed and a few aster leaves.
Interestingly, I raised one monarch from egg with the chrysalis opening up on the day I finished this image.
